Public Service

Ronnie Cromer has given more than 30 years of his life to public service. This passion developed when his Pomaria Elementary third-grade class went on a field trip to Columbia to visit the State House. Cromer knew then, someday, he wanted to be counted among those leading South Carolina into a better future.

It took some time, but Cromer eventually entered the political arena. In 1973, Cromer was elected to the Prosperity Town Council, where he served until 1980. After serving on the Town Council, Cromer took a break from public life to focus on growing his small business, Lo-Rex Drugs. Cromer was a member, and later chairman, of the Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority from 1991-94. In 1993, Cromer accepted an appointment to the Newberry County Development Board, where he served until 2000. Cromer has also served as member of the Newberry County Hospital Board of Trustees.

Today, Cromer serves as the State Senator for Senate District 18. He was first elected to the seat in a special election on April 15, 2003. During his short time as a Senator, Ronnie has risen through the ranks of the Senate Republican Caucus and is currently the chairman of the Senate Fish, Game and Forestry committee. He also serves on five other Senate committees: Banking and Insurance, Finance, General, Invitations, and Rules.
